Photo Hunt: Taste
By JG
Even though I’ve lived in Eagle Rock since 1996 and I even lived a short walk away from it for several years, I had never eaten at Polka, a unique restaurant that specializes in Polish cuisine. So when a couple I know invited me to dinner there recently, I jumped at the chance. I was wondering how Polka’s food would taste.

It turned out to taste pretty good! I ordered the salmon and it came in a cool, fish-shaped plate. Polka’s meals include soup, salad and a yummy dessert that is somewhere between chocolate pudding and mousse.

Apparently the restaurant changed hands last year, and the original family no longer runs it. My friends told me that it used to have all sorts of fun, kitschy knickknacks decorating the place (questionable taste, perhaps, but fun!), but they are all gone now. The table lamps, which turn on and off by touch, however, are holdovers from the old days.

I get the feeling that the food at Polka isn’t so Polish anymore too — or maybe it’s just me who thinks that salmon and chocolate pudding aren’t particularly Polish.

Yeah, I am not sure how Polish some of it was – maybe more in the preparation than the actual ingredients? In any case, it was good!

I’m Polish, so I was really excited to see the start of this entry, but the other commenters are right: the food doesn’t look all that Polish. But if it was good, that’s really the most important thing.
