You are probably wondering what this peaceful still life has to do with this week’s Photo Hunt theme. It was shot in the restroom of the theater where I was taking a workshop last weekend. And what was I doing in the restroom (besides taking photos with my iPhone)? I had to go, of course!
Quaggy? How about this unfinished construction project, started just before the bottom fell out of the Los Angeles real estate market? Since then it has been buried in a quagmire of paperwork, failed finances and troubles.
The project was abandoned, and the unfinished construction has been slowly rotting away for years.
Originally they were going to be artist’s lofts. For a while, until the lot was fenced in, homeless people were camping out there.
The lot is finally up for sale. Although I am not sure who would want it.
I was not expecting to have this photo here for this week’s Photo Hunt! But when I was driving home from errands Friday afternoon, I turned on the local news station to find out a fire had broken out not far from my house! Because of the hot weather and dry conditions, we here in Southern California have been Under a fire watch. For good reason too — several fires have broken out in different areas in the past couple of days.
Fortunately ours was the smallest. After only burning 75 acres and no homes, the fire crews managed to knock it down. There were evacuations of homes on the other side of the freeway from us, but we stayed safe. A major fire near the Ventura and Los Angeles county line is much more dangerous than ours was. That one is still going on, so please send some positive thoughts to the residents impacted there.
On the west side of the Eagle Rock/Glassel Park area, there is a pedestrian overpass that crosses the 2 freeway. It is walled on both sides by chain link fence, which makes it a little difficult to photograph the freeway with a traditional camera… but it’s easy to shoot with an iPhone’s tiny lens. I watched the traffic zoom by and took a photo facing south, towards the 5 freeway.
This is the opposite view, looking north towards the 134.
And yes, these were taken the same day as yesterday’s photo.
I had not been to the Coffee Table for a while, but visited it the other day and discovered they had a counter full of desserts I hadn’t seen before! Little tarts, cheesecakes and delicacies just the right size for two. We didn’t get dessert that day, but I went back later in the week to pick one up. After all, I needed something for this week’s Photo Hunt, right? Can you guess which one I picked out?
If you knew me, you would have guessed right — the exotic-looking pyramid in the middle! It’s a chocolate banana mousse. And no, our kitty Binga was not allowed a taste — chocolate is bad for cats! She does look disappointed, though, doesn’t she?
Schodorf’s Luncheonette, just over the hill in Highland Park, has an amazing portobello mushroom sandwich… and a bicycle hanging from the ceiling.
The same people also own Cafe de Leche down the street, and it also has a bicycle hanging from the ceiling. I don’t have a photo of that, yet.
